Vishwas is a prominent novelist and playwright in Marathi. ‘Zadazadati ( A Dirge for the Dammed in English’) on the life and plight of the people displaced by the construction of big dams, fetched him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1992. His other social novels like ‘Lust for Lalbug’, ‘Pangira’ and ‘Nagkeshar’, have mesmerised readers in various languages. His historical novels like ‘Sambhaji’ and ‘Panipat’ have been translated into Hindi and ‘Panipat’ is being published in English in November 2019. His novel ‘Mahanayak’ (on the life of Subhash Chandra Bose) has been translated into 14 Indian and foreign languages. He is the recipient of more than 40 literary awards.
