Of the many roles and attributes foisted on the hapless women of the world, the default one is that of the ubiquitous maternal instinct, a forceful supposition that human beings buy into unquestioningly. But what if it isn’t necessarily so? Is the maternal instinct as all pervasive as it is made out to be? As women across the world increasingly question traditional roles, this most basic of beliefs is also under the scanner.
