Samuel Johnson famously said, “No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money.” Nevertheless, many write to purge a memory, assuage grief or pain, even cauterise hate or envy. And it seems to work. But how difficult is the process of catharsis? How much of the truth can one tell? And does it always heal, does sharing lead to caring?
